Dear fine art base friends and family,

Thank you for an incredible first year. We began fine art base with visions of what could be. Inspired by the beauty of this area and its history of fine arts, we set to work. And, thanks to your help and support, we have now generated momentum here on the peninsula…

year 1: vibrations
In 2009 fine art base hosted five public exhibitions, three Resident Artists, two Artist Talks, one Workshop, and provided subsidized studio space for five emerging artists. Together we supported the development of new work created in the Monterey Bay area by emerging artists. We expanded public involvement in the arts and opened up dialogues among local artists and artists from Los Angeles and San Francisco. We questioned, converged, and cross-pollinated.

We could not have come so far without all of you. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of our supporters, collaborators, and fans. In less than one year of our inception, fine art base has a developed a buzz.

year 2: transitions
The new year is naturally a time of transition.

It has become apparent on personal and economic levels that we don’t need to run a physical space to advance the fine art base mission. We would like to announce that on 01.Jan.10 we will no longer operate from the space at 652 Redwood Avenue in Sand City.

We hope to emerge in 2010 able to re-approach the fine art base mission from a stronger place. We are working on redeveloping our organizational structure to become more financially solvent. Our long-term vision is to do larger, site-specific projects and public installations and to establish an Artist Residency program within Monterey County. We are looking at venues on the periphery, spaces well suited to experimental work, those requiring low to no overhead.
